Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons and ammunition during a successful operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
The operation, carried out on Friday, June 27, followed credible intelligence indicating that members of the terrorist group were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
According to Danja, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area after receiving the intelligence and laid a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route in a bid to foil the planned attack.
He said the operation led to a fierce gun battle, during which two of the suspected terrorists were neutralised, forcing others to flee with varying degrees of injuries.
The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated rifle, several rounds of ammunition, magazines, and other military-related items abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Danja said no casualties were recorded among the troops, describing the operation as another major success in the military’s ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace across the North-West.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements, while urging residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
