Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has clarified his recent remarks concerning the suspension of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following public reactions and debates over his comments.
Oshiomhole explained that his earlier statements were not intended to justify or assess the merits of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension, but rather to underscore the importance of due process and strict adherence to legislative procedures in handling disciplinary matters within the Senate.
According to him, some sections of the public had misconstrued his position, stressing that he remains committed to fairness, institutional integrity and respect for parliamentary rules.
The senator noted that internal issues within the National Assembly should be resolved in accordance with established legislative procedures rather than through public misrepresentation or political interpretation.
His clarification comes amid sustained public discourse over the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, which has continued to attract reactions from political stakeholders and members of the public.
Oshiomhole maintained that his comments had been taken out of context and urged Nigerians to focus on the substance of legislative governance rather than personal or partisan considerations.
He added that he would not want his remarks to be interpreted in any way that could undermine the integrity of individual senators or the institution of the Senate.
“Finally, I regret if my comments may have caused embarrassment to any senator or the 10th Senate as an institution,” Oshiomhole stated.
The clarification is expected to ease tensions generated by the controversy and support efforts by Senate leaders to move beyond the dispute surrounding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.
