The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday recorded a major milestone in Bayelsa State as Governor Douye Diri and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, jointly flagged off the party’s electronic membership registration exercise in Yenagoa.

The event signalled renewed collaboration among party leaders and a strategic push to strengthen grassroots participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by Nneamaka Okafor, Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Governor Diri underscored the importance of unity and mass registration as the foundation for political stability and electoral success.

The statement quoted the governor as reminding party members that the APC symbol embodies collective strength and shared purpose. “You can easily break a single broomstick, but when all the sticks come together, they are unbreakable,” he said, urging both old and new members to formally register.

He also emphasised the need for members to pair their APC membership cards with valid INEC voter cards to safeguard party integrity and prevent electoral manipulation.

Speaking at the event, Senator Lokpobiri described the e-registration initiative as a defining step toward building a stronger and more coordinated APC in Bayelsa State. According to him, the exercise will provide accurate membership data, enhance internal organisation and position the party for greater competitiveness.

“This exercise enables APC to accurately determine its support base in Bayelsa and better organise its structure ahead of future elections,” he said.

The minister also applauded the reconciliatory atmosphere within the party, noting that leaders who had not worked together for years were now aligning around a common goal.

He commended Governor Diri’s efforts in fostering dialogue and cooperation, saying the governor’s personal interventions had encouraged compromises and ushered in a renewed spirit of unity.

Reaffirming the party’s commitment to electoral victory, Lokpobiri assured supporters that the APC is united and focused on success at all levels. He stressed that active participation in the e-registration exercise is crucial to the party’s plans to “deliver all elective offices and secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.”

The flag-off ceremony ended with a joint call on party members to mobilise their constituencies, deepen participation in the exercise and sustain peace and collaboration, which leaders said would further consolidate the APC’s grassroots presence and political strength in Bayelsa State.
