…Police Tactical Team, Operation Puff Adder Receive Commendations
Stakeholders in Bayelsa State have continued to shower encomiums on the Bayelsa State Police Command following the swift arrest of George Idumangi, the suspected killer of 42-year-old estate agent, Mr. Richard Ekpebu.
Idumangi was apprehended last Monday at the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) office in Festac Town, Lagos, while attempting to procure an international passport in a bid to flee the country.
Prominent voices across political, social, and traditional platforms have hailed the professionalism and courage displayed by the police and the tactical unit, Operation Puff Adder, led by CSP Chris Nwaogbo.
Business mogul and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Robert Ayalla Enoa, commended the efforts of the police, while Barr. Festus Daemuebi, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged the government and the police hierarchy to institute a reward system for officers who distinguish themselves in protecting lives and property.
The leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Bayelsa State Chapter, also joined in the commendation, applauding Commissioner of Police Francis Idu and CSP Nwaogbo for their tactical approach and commitment to securing the state.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Dr. Frank Oduwukwe, Ohaneze Ndigbo described the successes of the police under Idu’s watch as “encouraging and reassuring,” noting that the presence of effective security operations radiates a sense of safety among residents. The group recalled notable police interventions, including the rescue of kidnapped businessmen, recovery of stolen rifles belonging to the NSCDC, and the rescue of the brother of the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.
“Above all,” the statement read, “the recent quick arrest of the suspected killer of Mr. Ekpebu has further boosted public confidence in the police and the administration of Governor Douye Diri.”
The group also announced plans to honour Commissioner Idu and CSP Nwaogbo during the September 29, 2025 Igbo Day Celebration, in recognition of their bravery and tactical leadership that have fostered peace in Bayelsa.
Similarly, in a solidarity message, the Chairman of the Bomo Clan Council of Chiefs in Southern Ijaw LGA, HRH (Dr.) Inatimi I.S.A. Zalakoro, expressed profound appreciation to the police for apprehending the suspect. Zalakoro, who described the late Mr. Ekpebu as a respected real estate developer and son-in-law of the Bomo Clan, noted that the tragic killing had left a deep wound in the hearts of his people.
“Your swift and determined response in pursuing justice has brought relief and reassurance to our communities,” Zalakoro said. He singled out CSP Nwaogbo for his “rare display of professionalism, tactical brilliance, and personal leadership” in tracking and arresting the suspect in Lagos.
The royal father further described the operation as a testament to the values of dedication, courage, and service that the Nigerian Police Force stands for.
